In fiction romance novel "Dismantled Hearts," there's a scene where competition becomes evident. In this case, it was a secret competition, but it soon came out into the open, triggering jealous behavior that ultimately changed the lives of those involved. Unfortunately, this occurs more often than not, and if a person isn't careful or lacks discernment, they can find themselves unknowingly caught in a destructive cycle without understanding the true source.
One thing I continue to learn about life is that when you operate in God's will—doing what He has called you to do, walking in obedience, and having faith in His promises—you're content with what He has in store for you. You don't want what someone else has because you know God's plan for you is enough.
Each of us has a unique role to play, whether it's raising future leaders, making history, impacting our communities, changing the world, or simply making a difference in our everyday interactions. In God's plan, there's no need for secret competition or trying to outdo others because you're focused on running your own race, striving towards your own goals with clarity and purpose. You genuinely celebrate others' successes, cheering for them even if they succeed before you, because you trust that what's meant for you will come in due time and confident that God's timing is perfect for everyone.
When someone finds themselves being competitive without understanding why, they need to trace it back to the root. In some cases, people unknowingly compare themselves to others and eventually lose sight of their true self, leading them to make choices based on competition rather than their own passions and values. For some, it stems from childhood comparisons, leading to persistent feelings of inadequacy into adulthood. Others may carry over a competitive mindset from sports or other pursuits, without realizing it. Take a moment today to reflect on your intentions. If you find yourself drifting out of your lane and veering into unhealthy competition, it's necessary to maintain your focus and integrity. Take yourself out of this imaginary race and get back focused on your own dreams.
Final thoughts
Again, following God's path removes the need for competition. You won't strive to have a leg up on someone else because you're focused on reaching your own finish line with tunnel vision. You rejoice in others' blessings, knowing that if God did it for them, He will do it for you too. I truly wish success for others, because when people follow their purpose and do well, they contribute to making the world a better place for the greater good, especially for future generations.
Striving to be the best doesn't always go as planned. It's okay to accept second place at times. When you're on the path to becoming the best version of yourself, making small improvements every day, and embracing your unique journey you are always # 1. Your main competition should be with yourself—focused on personal growth and development. Anything else can become a distraction.
Until next time!
